Eh Day Long Weekend!

In the spirit of being better at this blogging lifestyle, I am trying to write soon after events in my life opposed to 20 days later! With that being said, this long weekend I had a bumping Canada Day and have much to share!
Starting the weekend off strong, on Friday my boss let us leave at noon opposed to 5! Luckily I got to come home early and clean up the apartment for the arrival of my long weekend guests Chedi and Katie. That night Chedi, Katie, Lily and I hung out, listened to tunes and caught up on all things related to school, summer and life since we had last seen each other! Although I see Lily weekly and Katie a few times a month, the last time I got to see Chedi was in February at Nationals! It was lovely to get to hear about his cross Canada trip from New Brunswick to Alberta and see pictures of the beautiful country. After lovely chats, we called it a night to prepare for the long weekend ahead.
Saturday morning we woke up and had a first attempt at cooking oatmeal. For a first attempt with instant oats on the stove top, I would give us a 7/10 due to the slight sticky texture of the oats. Following our gourmet meal we headed down to Gastown! In Gastown we saw the famous Gas Clock, went to a beautiful little cafe called The Birds & The Beets and entered a bunch of cute little shops! As we wandered around in book stores, art shops, paper stores and Lululemon Labs, the hunger struck again and we made our way down to a brunch joint that Katie had been wanting to try. After a 30 minute wait (which was definitely worth it) we were seated at Medina a beautiful little spot in downtown. Out of all the wonderful places that I have eaten breakfast, Medina was hands-down-no-questions-asked the best breakfast I have ever consumed! Following the most wonderful meal we "dinked around" on our way back to my apartment for a big patio szn BBQ! After a big musical pump up we ventured to the Craft Beer Market. On the way home we stopped at a beach where we chatted, partook in a maze and considered "should I be worried" (a eerie illuminated sing on the beach).
On Sunday morning, the team took a second crack at oatmeal and given the previous day I would say we deserved a 10/10 on the oatmeal scale. Since it was Canada Day, we rallied up in our red and white and jumped on a bus to downtown. After a much needed coffee break on the steps of the Vancouver Art Museum we wandered around the Vancouver Canada Day festivities! We started off at the Art Museum which outside had several games and booths for youths. As much as wanted to partake in the giant curling it may have been unacceptable for 3 young adults to face off against the little ones, so we left the area and headed down to Canada Place! At Canada Place there was a series of booths, food stands (including Tube Steaks aka hot dogs), games and performances. While playing giant Jenga we listened to a band called Leisure Club (a new fav) and worked on our tans! As it goes when this gang is together, hunger struck again so we ventured to a Thai food truck for lunch. After the meal we wandered to Granville Island for more Canada Day festivities including live music, lemonade and free samples! Again we headed back to my apartment for a BBQ before hitting the town again for fireworks. We posted up in Stanley Park to watch the firework show, but unfortunately got caught in the rain and became soaked. Regardless, we toughed it out and watched the show with our friend Margaret!
This morning Katie and Chedi headed out pretty early. Luckily I get to see Katie next weekend for Victoria Pride and I potentially may meet up with Chedi in Calgary in early August! It was really lovely to have my pals over, especially because we may not be so close in proximity in the future. It always amazes me how infrequently I get to see these people but how deep our friendship is!
All in all Eh Day was Eh-mazing (my sad attempt at a pun) and I am so glad I had wonderful pals to celebrate with!
A friendship fulfilled,
BC
