The Lovely Long-Weekend!

This Victoria Day weekend has been a hoot and a half! On Friday night, my lovely friends Katie and Magnet (its Maggie, but is it really?) arrived for a weekend of FUN. We drank super sweet 7/11 slushees, chatted about our summers, gossiped over romantic ferry rides and promptly fell asleep.
On Saturday the true festivities began! Our first stop on the Vancouver Grand Tour was the Vancouver Art Gallery. Since the wonderful Magnet was on crutches (rip to her armpits and wrists) we were able to get a wheelchair and one free admission! The museum was extremely interesting. I usually am not an art gallery person, unlike my cool friends, but I am really glad we went. There was an exhibit in the gallery called "Bombhead" which displayed pieces related to nuclear warfare and the post-war era. The exhibit showed multiple aspects of this time period, including post-cards, survival guides and paintings/photos of nuclear explosions. After the art gallery, the team trekked to a delicious taco shop called The Pawn Shop. Katie was the true MVP of this journey, carrying Magnet to the finish line regardless of the hunger within. We devoured the tacos before venturing to the next stop, Gastown! In Gastown we did some thrift shopping and went to a local coffee shop. I wanted to order a dirty chai but I didn't see chai tea on the menu so instead I asked for a London fog with a shot of expresso. We have coined this drink "The Filthy Fog" and expect it to become popular among locals over the summer. After an exciting day on the city we decided to have a big BBQ back at my place. The weather was beautiful so we sat on the patio, drank some IPA and listened to tasteful music (Landslide the Glee version). Later that night the extraordinary Lily joined us from her flight in from Montreal! We made her sing us songs and share stories instead of allowing her to eat the BBQ dinner that we had prepared. After a few glasses of wine, my roommate Gracie arrived! Even though she had just moved in, she let the team crash in her queen sized bed, where we snuggled up for a good snooze.
On Sunday morning Magnet departed to go visit another friend in Victoria, and Katie, Lily and I met up with our friend Cam on Granville Island for a quick meal! We had a delicious (and cheap) breakfast and talked about our summers, including discussions that Cam is soon to become the best gold panner in Whitehorse! After breakfast we wandered around the market, enjoying a vast array of free samples. After the samples, Cam headed home and we ventured around the island for a while. We had intentions of having a beach day but the sun did not want to come out. Regardless, we headed to the beach full of hope. It turned out to be quite the lovely day and we soaked up some sun! When the hunger struck, we found our way to a cheap Sushi place where we had a $5 dinner! We returned back to my apartment where we relaxed for a bit before Gracie's friend arrived for dinner. As it is patio season, we spent the entire night outside chatting for hours! It was really lovely to be able to sit outside and chat with some of my favourite people. When it was very dark and we realized the hunger was back, I fired up a few chicken burgers before bed.
This morning both Katie and Lily left for their homes. It was quite sad to see them go, but the wonderful thing about the lads being in BC as well is that I will see them again so soon! Following the departure of the team, Gracie and I made breakfast and chatted all morning before she had lunch with a friend. Currently, I am trying to find a way to see fireworks tonight, but it is not looking too hopeful!
Overall the long weekend has been one of the most enjoyable times that I have had in BC thus far! I cannot wait to spend the rest of my summer with my pals in the beautiful BC.
