First Day, Hooray!
Today was my official first day of work with BC LNG Alliance! It was super fun but also extremely intimidating. I walked to work in suit pants and a button up shirt (a.k.a spiffy mature people clothes) with my Nike backpack that contained my packed sandwich and cut up vegetables (like a real adult). You know when toddlers dress up in their parents clothes and run around in oversized high heels and dress shirts? Well that pretty accurately sums up how I felt at work today. Everyone knows its just a baby in grown up clothes, but they pretend that its an adult to humour the kid. I definitely did not feel prepared for a real job, but none the less it was a great first day! I was able to sit in on a fancy business conference call and even got a free cup of coffee! I was given a key to my office building, and it only took a solid two minutes of me fighting with the lock for the door to open! Most of the work that I do is confidential (like REAL grown up stuff) but I can say that I read a 194 page government document today to find a statistic on green house gas emissions. Regardless, my job seems like it is going to be super interesting and a great experience. A majority of what I will be doing is researching and writing policy, so I will be gaining a ton of knowledge while at work! My boss is an extremely nice man. He often leaves articles on my desk or sends me videos that he wants me to watch. He seems to be very laid back and has exclaimed that he wants me to get a ton out of this job. There is only one other person in the office, the executive assistant to my boss. She is a very organized and kind woman who prompted me to eat my lunch and drink the free coffee. Overall the two people who I will be working with on the daily seem lovely, and I am very excited to continue working with BC LNG Alliance this summer!
An official adult working gal,
